1. What are the basic qualifications?

The basic qualifications to be a Corrections Officer include:

• High school diploma or the equivalent (GED)
• At least 18 years old
• Valid driver’s license
• Background check required
• Typing skills including 20 words per minute (WPM) with basic knowledge of keyboard and mouse
• Must pass pre-employment physical agility test (view the following candidate charts) and written exam

2. What does it pay?

The Corrections Officer 2021 base salary starts at $46,051.20 and up to $59,883.20 with four years of service. Officers also receive 14 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 2 weeks of vacation in the first year and up to 5 weeks of vacation depending upon years of service.

3. Are there other career opportunities within the correctional setting?

The Department of Corrections has many career opportunities available such as Food Service Officer, Case Managers, and Drug and Alcohol Case Managers. The Department also has opportunities for promotion for several supervisory positions as well.

1. Go to www.buckscounty.gov.  Scroll down and click on the  “Careers” button.  Under Job Opportunities, click on the link for the Job Requisition Listing, which will take you to a listing of all county job openings.
2. Click on the position you are interested in (in this case Corrections Officer) and review the job description.  If you meet the qualifications, complete a job application by clicking Apply Online, under Job Details on the right side.  The application will prompt you to take a typing test if one is required. 
3. When the online application is completed you will receive a confirming email.   
4. All applications are reviewed and the most qualified will be contacted by email (please make sure emails don’t go to a spam folder) to take a pre-employment physical agility test and the written basic skills test.
