About the Council

Bucks County Opportunity Council, Inc. with 18 members (three appointed by the Commissioners) is a non-profit Community Action Agency established in 1965. The Board of Directors serves in a governance capacity and have advice, consent, and voting responsibilities.  Our mission is to help low-income people in Bucks County achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency. Our visionary principle is that the empowerment of people with the education, training, resources, and skills necessary to permanently leave poverty is far more beneficial than helping them cope in poverty.

Services

We provide a comprehensive range of self-sufficiency, both emergency and preventative, free tax preparation, financial literacy and asset development, food assistance, and weatherization services.   Board responsibilities include oversight of policy, fiduciary, program outcomes, and overall performance of the agency relative to its mission.
