E-Waste Reimbursement Grant

Purpose

In an effort to address the mounting need for electronic waste collection throughout Bucks County, the County Commissioners are piloting the Bucks County E-Waste Collection Reimbursement Grant Program (BCERG).

This program will make funds available to local municipalities that host a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) approved electronics recycling collection event or provide an ongoing electronic disposal program for their residents. The goal is to significantly reduce or eliminate the costs paid by residents for the proper disposal of covered and non-covered electronic waste products as stipulated by the Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA) Act 108 of 2010. Covered devices are televisions and computers and computer monitors. The requirements for conducting a PADEP approved e-waste collection event can be found here: Municipal Electronics Collection Registration Form

The BCERG Pilot will provide up to a maximum of $4,000.00 (four thousand dollars) per year in reimbursement to each municipality that participates utilizing an “e-Stewards” or R2 certified recycling vendor approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. A list of approved vendors, as well as more information about approval from the DEP can be found at: Electronics Recycling (pa.gov). Joint municipal collaboration amongst several municipalities is encouraged and the “host” municipality may receive up to $12,000.00 (twelve thousand dollars) in total reimbursement from the BCERG program. Municipalities may submit for more than one event in a calendar year until the $4,000.00/$12,000.00 maximum reimbursement is reached.

Participating municipalities must provide proof of the costs of their event and their PADEP approval letter to the Bucks County Planning Commission, utilizing the attached application in order to be considered for the BCERG reimbursement. Costs may include municipal labor and collection/disposal fees. All documentation is to be sent to: planningcommission@buckscounty.org

The BCERG program will run from January 1st until December 31st of each year until suspended by the County Commissioners.
