County Operations Sustainability Plan

The County Operations Sustainability Plan will be focused on internal operations. This plan will address operational parameters such as energy procurement, energy use, emissions reductions, general purchasing, vehicle fleet purchasing, improve pollinator and ecosystem function, and general day-to-day workplace policies. The plan is intended to be a living document and will be amended and revised as needed to reach our sustainability goals. When adopted, the goal will be to use this plan as a model for our municipal partners. This plan is in the beginning stages but with help of the LCAP program and Penn State students, we will include a Climate Action section in our sustainability plan for county operations.

More Updates will be posted as they become available.

Energy Procurement

When it comes to energy procurement for county operations, the county has joined up with our neighboring counties in a Regional Power Purchase Agreement to save money by buying energy in bulk. Now, we are working toward coming together to make a managed portfolio subaccount.
This would allow for energy procurement that is:
  • Active (having the ability to purchase energy when we want to aka when the market conditions are right)
  • Transparent (knowing exactly where our energy comes from and at what price)
  • Flexible (having the ability to add our own clean energy projects as well as allow for schools and municipalities to join the power agreement)

The target date for the managed portfolio subaccount to come into effect is January 2025.
