The CDC recommends that people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems receive a third dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
People who have compromised immune systems are more at risk of serious, prolonged illness and may benefit from an additional dose to make sure they have enough protection against COVID-19.
To see the CDC’s recommendations including eligible medical conditions, additional doses and booster shots, please go to the COVID-19 Vaccines for a Specific Group of People page. To see the PA Department of Health's recommendation on who is eligible for an additional dose or booster shot click PA Departmentof Health COVID-19 Vaccine page.
Talk to your healthcare provider about your medical condition to decide whether getting an additional dose or booster is appropriate for you.
